Quentin's representations result in Police taking No Further Action in Baby Assault case
Mr BM was in his bedroom at home with his 3-month-old son who was asleep in a Moses basket on the bed, he picked up the basket and in doing so one of the handles slipped out of his grasp and the baby fell to the floor with some impact.
Mr BM and his wife immediately took their son to their nearest hospital where their nightmare ordeal began. It appears that one of the doctors did not believe that the baby had suffered accidental injuries and both social services and the Police were called. Both parents were arrested and interviewed by Police. As the infant had suffered broken bones the parents were investigated for Child Cruelty contrary to s1 Children and Young Persons Act 1933 and Assault Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm contrary to s18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
Both parents instructed Mr Quentin Hunt to look after them on a direct public access basis.
Quentin immediately took instructions from both parents in respect of what happened on the day in question. Together with the family, Quentin researched the injuries of the infant and sought expert evidence in respect of how the injuries were patently accidental. Quentin was also able to present footage from within the hospital to show that some injuries to the infant must have post-dated the admission to hospital and were likely incurred during the process of treatment.
Quentin was able to put together, and presented, a set of robust and compelling representations to the Police as to why the matter was not suitable for criminal charge. To the delight of Mr BM, the Police accepted these representations, and no further action was taken against both him and his wife, putting an end to an extremely anxious time for them.

There is no stage that is too early or too late to seek legal advice if you consider yourself to be in trouble. In fact, the earlier you get an experienced legal representative on board the more likely you are to avoid mistakes at the beginning of proceedings that can come back to haunt you later if the matter proceeds to litigation.
One of Quentin’s mottos is that ‘the best way to win a trial is not to have a trial at all’ and he is known for the drafting of effective pre-charge representations and the launching of powerful pre-trial legal arguments. His tactical and skilful drafting and presentation of arguments such as disclosure, abuse of process and dismissal applications can often defeat a prosecution case before it even gets to trial.
Quentin is also adept at accepting instructions at a late stage and is often approached to ‘rescue’ cases from ineffective publicly funded representatives.
Quentin is passionate about committing the necessary time and attention to detail to his cases and purposefully does not take on a huge client base. He is therefore does not accept instruction in Legal Aid or publicly funded cases.
