Mr GT was travelling from a friend’s house in Essex into London Liverpool Street Station, as he passed though the ticket barriers he was approached by a Police officer with a drugs dog. The dog ‘signalled’ towards GT who was stopped by Police and searched. He was found to have possession of a quantity of cocaine and cannabis. 

He immediately approached criminal defence barrister Quentin Hunt to look after his interests on a direct public access basis. He was particularly worried as he was undertaking a PHD at Oxford University in the Medical field and was concerned that his future employment prospects may be adversely affected by any conviction. 

Quentin immediately spoke to the Officer in the Case and discussed the evidence in the case and the Police approach. Although highly unusual in a case of this sort, he sought to persuade the Police that a caution would be appropriate in the circumstances. He agreed a course with the officer where GT would be interviewed under caution and following admission being made, he would be granted a simple caution. 

This was undertaken under Quentin’s supervision and things ended with GT being cautioned by Police. This meant that he avoided a criminal court case and a criminal record by way of a conviction which may have had catastrophic implications for his future career.
