Quentin Hunt is a criminal Barrister who assists victims of crime assert their rights and pursue prosecutions in circumstances where either the Police or CPS decide to take no action.
Quentin has written a detailed guide to the VRR procedure and a Q&A answering commonly asked client questions.
Miss XX made a complaint of sexual assault to the Thames Valley Police. Although the matter was investigated and XX gave a video interview to the Police. The suspect in the case was arrested and gave a version of events. Despite Miss XX providing a clear and cogent version of events the Police decided to take No Further Action in the case and the matter was dropped.
Miss XX was devastated and sought assistance from a specialist Barrister, Quentin Hunt, in order to undertake a Victim’s Right to Review to ensure that justice was pursued.
Upon instruction, Quentin made sure that he got as much information form the Police as possible about their decision and the rationale behind it. Upon receiving information from the Police it appeared that the chief reason for the decision of the police was lack of corroboration of Miss XX’s account.
Quentin constructed a strongly worded set of representations to the Police pointing out that their decision was fundamentally flawed and based on a misunderstanding and misapplication of the charging test and guidance; the Police were put under no misapprehension that their decision should be reversed, and charges should be brought.
Upon consideration of Quentin’s representations, the decision was overturned and the review was successful. The Police brought charges against the suspect. Quentin’s client was both pleased and relieved that justice could be done.
